SUMMARY:Grapevine Monthly Camping Weekend
LOCATION:Grapevine (AZ88) near Roosevelt Lake
DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:\n \nDinner and a Movie!\n\nThe camp host for this month is:\n~ Brian
Schober ~\n\n\n\n\nHappy New Year Arizona Pilots!\n\n\nOur Grapevine Decemb
er weekend camping was great. Many pilots from Prescott flew in and i
ncluded an abundance of tail draggers. In addition, some new faces jo
ined us and some great ideas for future weekends at Grapevine were discusse
d.\n\n\nAs a result of that weekend, and with the help of George (George Lu
scombe Driver on Facebook) out of DVT, I want to invite you to Movie Night
on Saturday!\n\n\nOur January weekend host, Brian Schober, will be providin
g Saturday’s dinner entree. Afterwards will be the movie Maverick (To
p Gun 2) showing at dark.\n\n\nJust think how much fun it will be sitting o
ut under the stars and watching a great movie! And don’t forget to he
lp support the Grapevine weekends by donating $10 per person for the dinner
and movie.\n\n\nPlease come and enjoy great comradery with other pilots, o
ld and young, great camping surroundings, campfire, vault toilet and starry
skies. What more can you ask for? \n\n\nSee you there,\n\n\nLea
nne Tawoda\n\n\n \n\n\n \nFriday night: Camp out under the stars!
\n\n\nSaturday Night: Join us to camp under the stars and tell storie
s around the group campfire! Camp host will prepare the main course. C
ampers, please bring a side dish or dessert to share. \n\n\nSunda
y: Most folks depart by noon\nATTN: Please, no motor vehicles, other than A
PA and USFS support vehicles, are permitted past the gate at the highway. T
his is a closed area and only aircraft access is allowed. Help us keep our
commitment to the USFS!\n\n\n \n\n\n*** Grapevine Notice! ***\n\n\nMou
ntain Air Helicopters is operating two helicopters at low level for constru
ction operations between the USFS helipad and primarily within 3 NM of the
Roosevelt Dam. Please avoid the dam area, including the canyon downstream,
when flying into and near the Grapevine Airstrip.\n\n\nFor more info contac
t: Dwight Jones\nMountain Air Helicopters\n505-603-0306\n\n\nThe Arizona Pi
lots Association has done an incredible job saving and rehabilitating Grape
vine Airstrip (88AZ). Located on the south shore of Roosevelt Lake, t
he approach to runway 17 is beautiful. It gives the boaters on the la
ke a close-up view of many different aircraft as they land on the fantastic
asphalt runway. At 3,800 feet long, this allows most aircraft to che
ck it out. \n\n\nI am here to invite those interested to enjoy the bac
kcountry flying, camping, and great camaraderie. On the third Saturda
y of the month from October to April, Grapevine has a hosted weekend fly in
and camping. Although not everyone is able to come in on Friday, the
re are a few of us that wouldn’t miss it. I am glad to tell the Frida
y crowd that the restaurant in Roosevelt is open again and under new manage
ment.\n\n\nOn Saturday, there are plenty of members and non-members that fl
y in and love to talk planes, airstrips, and other exciting adventures!&nbs
p; I want to encourage everyone to come out and join us. Watch out fo
r Mike Andresen, there is always something to clean up or work on, and the
Grapevine airstrip is maintained only though donations and volunteer help.\
n\n\nAlso, why not stay overnight? The weekend host(s) will provide t
he dinner’s main meal and the sides are brought by the other campers.
This results in a fantastic, scrumptious, heavenly, yummy, luscious, divin
e, tasty, mouth-watering meal with beautiful scenery and wonderful sunsets.
In September, Jupiter was rising over the eastern mountain range, co
mpeting with Venus in the western sky.\n\n\nThere will be some additions to
the weekend. Coming this year, we will have corn hole competitions a
nd other fun activities. Also, how good are you at making a paper air
plane? Will it fly? How well will it fly? Won’t you
come and join us? Want to be a host? I’ve had many other sugge
stions, but I would love to hear from you, too.\n\n\nThis email address is
