Welcome to the November 2025 APA Newsletter!

The flying season has finally arrived in Arizona, the weather has been awesome, and I know a lot of folks are getting their airplanes out of the hangar to enjoy it. We had our first Grapevine Camping weekend last month and everyone had great time as always. We are planning to do something a little different for the November Grapevine Camping Weekend and combine a Day Trip and Camping Weekend. Grapevine (88AZ) is a beautiful location with a well-maintained paved runway (3,800’ X 40’) so this is a fantastic opportunity to get our membership together. If you haven’t had the opportunity to fly into Grapevine, you can download the pilots notes and safety brochure for 88AZ from our website.

Mike McCann, Day Trip Coordinator, and Leanne Tawoda, Grapevine Event Coordinator, put their heads together and developed a great plan for the combined event. Since the Day Trip folks usually get an early start, Leanne has put together a volunteer group to provide breakfast. Because ramp space is tight at Grapevine, slots will be limited, and an RSVP will be required for both the Day Trip and Camping Weekend. Look for more details in the event email from Mike and Leanne and on the APA Facebook page. As this edition of the newsletter goes to print, the original November 14 – 16 dates may be pushed to the following weekend, November 21 – 23 based on weather. Keep an eye on your email and the AZ Pilots Facebook page for more information.

On a related note, APA has recently completed an update to our Liability Waiver so we will be asking everyone to complete this document and have it on file for all future events. For your convenience, a link will be provided in the event announcements so that you can complete it online.

Finally, I wanted to provide you with an update on Scholarship Program applications for 2025. The application window closed on 31 October with forty-four applications submitted. Based on initial review, we had a good cross-section of applicants pursuing careers in aviation maintenance, air traffic control and as professional aviators. The Scholarship Committee will be working hard over the next month to review and rank the applications, and we will keep you posted on our progress!

Thank you for supporting APA’s mission through your membership and please feel free to reach out to me at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. if you have any comments, concerns or questions.
