Outreach Guidance Document

2023/10-29-302(I)PP

This outreach guidance is provided to all FAA and aviation industry groups that are participating in outreach efforts sponsored by the General Aviation Joint Safety Committee (GAJSC).  It is important that all outreach on a given topic is coordinated and is free of conflicts.  Therefore, all outreach products should be in alignment with the outline and concepts listed below for this topic.

Outreach Month:  June 2025

Topic: Regulatory Roadblock Reduction

The FAA and industry will conduct a public education campaign emphasizing the benefits of reducing regulatory burden to certification while maintaining high safety standards..

Background

A GAJSC study found that regulatory burden and compliance expence inhibits approval and adoption of modern safety technologies.  Reducing that burden and expense would encourage development, manufacture, and installation of technologies.

Teaching Points:

  • Modern safety technologies can substantially reduce the number and severity of general aviation accidents.
  • Acquisition expense and installation procedures discourage universal adoption of safety technologies.
  • Consensus-based manufacturing standards with rigorous process and product oversight can result in safer, more efficient, and less costly general aviation aircraft and equipment.
