From Craig Albright:
Scott Williams (a fellow pilot and Cirrus owner based in CA) and I will host a Critical Decision Making (CDM) seminar on Saturday, October 27th in beautiful Big Bear Lake, CA. What's a CDM you ask? Click here and find out! Basically, a CDM is a structured, hangar-flying session where we look at various accidents and the sorts of decisions led up to the "unfortunate" (that's a euphemism for "fatal") result. Although the seminar is sponsored by COPA, the Cirrus Owners and Pilots Association of which Scott and I are members, the organization makes the seminar available to any licensed pilot...including student pilots. In my experience, both low- and high-time pilots gain value from the synergistic and dynamic CDM conversations. (Side note: As a flight instructor, I'd be happy to provide a logbook endorsement for a couple of hours of ground: scenario-based decision-making.)
Our seminar will be atop Snow Summit's scenic summer sky chair, elevation 8,200' ! The views and mountain air alone are worth the trip from anywhere in the southwest. In case you're unfamiliar with Big Bear, the airport designator is L35 (about 8 minutes away from the chairlift). Shuttle service between the airport and the chairlift will be provided for timely arrivals. If anyone would like to stay Friday and/or Saturday evenings, Scott can arrange a reduced rate stay at the same complex where he has a vacation home, Big Bear Escape at the base of the mountain. Even better, Scott's planning a wine-and-cheese mixer at his place on Friday evening, October 26 for anyone deciding to fly in on Friday!
As you may have guessed, Scott's actually doing virtually all of the organizing! I'm simply helping facilitate during the seminar, itself. So, if you have questions regarding logistics, direct them to Scott ( This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
