Pilots invited to fly in, display aircraft at historic Mesa airport

Arizona pilots are invited to fly in for a day of aviation fun at the City of Mesa’s Falcon Field Airport annual Open House 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, March 7.  Show off your pride and joy to aviation enthusiasts, make new contacts, and learn about the many on-airport services available to Arizona’s business and recreational pilots!

The Open House will be held on airport ramps and at nearby Falcon Field Park, 4636 East Fighter Aces Drive (north of McKellips Road between Greenfield and Higley roads). General and disabled parking is available at the airport entrance on the north side of McKellips Road east of Greenfield Road. Additional parking with shuttles to the event site also will be available on the west side of Higley road north of McKellips Road.

Event admission and parking are FREE! Canned food donations will be accepted for the United Food Bank.

Event highlights include:

• Aircraft displays featuring Boeing’s Apache helicopter, vintage warbirds, experimental aircraft and general aviation planes. Ramp security and trained aircraft marshallers will be on duty for aircraft displays.
• Flight simulator hosted by the Civil Air Patrol.
• Flight training and aviation career information provided by representatives of area education programs, businesses and aviation organizations.
• Historical exhibits about Falcon Field’s origin as a World War II pilot training base at the Commemorative Air Force Airbase Arizona Aviation Museum. The museum also will host the Southwest Military Transport Show. They can be accessed from the Open House event site. Special Open House pricing is only $5 person/$10 family for the museum and military vehicle show.
• More than 100 classic cars at the Impala Bob’s Car Show!
• Model railroad exhibits by Arizona Big Train Operators and Grand Canyon Model Railroaders!
• Food, music and aircraft fly-overs will add to the fun!
