Havasu City event to the Makai Cafe

This is a reminder regarding next Saturday’s BC event to Lake Havasu (HII).  Plan on arriving between 0830 and 0900.  We will be parking at Desert Skies Aviation.  I will arrange to reserve the two vans for the trip into town.  I will need to have two drivers for the vans.  I will make reservation at the Makai Café for 0930.  Be sure to monitor our “group flight following” frequency of 123.45 while in route.  At this time, I have no insights as to weather conditions for next weekend.

On another subject.  This is the 23rd year of monthly fly-ins to some pretty neat (and some so so) locations.  On some occasions, I was more the adventure rather than the destination.  In any instance, it was still flying and that, more than anything else, is what it’s all about.  For the most part, managing the BC has been a “one man show” with the exception of when I created the “crack(ed) event committee.  This committee consisted of three other folks and we would meet (usually in November) to have breakfast and put together the itinerary for the following year.  Austin Erwin, Paul Fortune, and Richard Azimov have been instrumental in putting together an interesting list of events over the years.  Some events were overnight and in some cases, 3-day events and were truly memorable.  But, in the end, it was up to me to make the arrangements or research the destinations for places to eat, stay, and to arrange transportation.  Once the arrangements were amassed, I would then sent out the information for our members to act on.  For many years I would write a story about the fly-in and then post it on the Breakfast Club web site.  In order to keep the “dining” theme, I titled the story with the name of “The Knife and Fork.”  I have not posted any new stories in the last two years as there is only so much interesting news about a place that we have been to a dozen time or more.

So, with that said, I have come to a decision to make our December event, the “swan song” for the Breakfast Club.  I truly believe that it is time for some new blood and younger ideas to infuse into a club or group to keep the tradition going.  If someone is will to step-up and assume the leadership, I would be willing to work with them for a while to ease the transition into a new leadership team.  If anyone is interested, please don’t hesitate to contact me and we can talk.
