May 17 Day Trip
Cochise County (Willcox) P33
Trip Details:

Our May day trip will be to southeast Arizona as we head to Cochise Country (aka “Willcox”) Airport. This will be our last trip to southern AZ until the Fall and the first time we’ve made Willcox our day trip destination. At almost 4,200’ MSL, the morning temperatures should be very comfortable with great views of southeastern AZ.
RSVP’s are required as we’ll have 24 slots for pilots and passengers for this day trip. We’ll also have a wait list in case the 24 slots fill before you’re able to RSVP.
Willcox Aviation will host APA’s visit:
Many thanks to Willcox Aviation who is our host for this event. They took over the FBO two years ago and have finished a complete remodeling of the FBO facility. Furthermore, they’ve also arranged to have a food truck at the airport making breakfast available for purchase at the airport (breakfast burritos, etc.). Lastly, with any purchase of a minimum 10 gallons Avgas, your breakfast burrito will be FREE!
Also, for anyone wishing to visit the downtown area after breakfast, the FBO is offering their three crew cars for use. There will be plenty to see in Willcox on the 17th so feel free to check it out.
.

Willcox Wine Festival on May 17
Coinciding with our breakfast flight, the Willcox Wine Festival will be happening May 17-18. The area around Willcox has long been known for its vineyards and numerous wineries. The Willcox Wine Country features 14 tasting rooms, tours, locally grown and produced wines. And the Willcox Wine Festival (held in May and October), has been rated by Fodor’s Travel as one of the top-ten wine festivals in North America.
If you’re interested in staying longer to enjoy the activities, Willcox Aviation has indicated Uber cars will be running during the weekend. Further event details can be found in the following link: https://willcoxwinecountry.org/event/willcox-wine-festival-may-2025/
For anyone wishing to rent a car for the weekend, cars are available via Kempton Chevrolet:

Wrap-Up:
As always, be sure to thoroughly preflight both yourself and your aircraft. And do a thorough flight planning as would be required for any cross-country flight. P33 is a non-tower-controlled airport, so pilots are encouraged to review Advisory Circular 90-66C for proper operation in non-towered airports.
Event Limit: 24 persons (pilots and passengers)
