Topic:  Introduction to Safety Risk Management

The FAA and industry will conduct a public education campaign emphasizing the best practices associated with Safety Risk Management

Background

The General Aviation Joint Steering Committee (GAJSC) has studied a number of General Aviation accidents that were caused by inaccurate and/or unreasonable expectations with regard to risk assessment and mitigation.  This short program will introduce the subject of Safety Risk Management and offer some practical examples of SRM in practice.

Teaching Points:

  • General aviation accidents continue to be associated with inaccurate or unreasonable expectations with regard to risk assessment and mitigation.
  • Safety Risk Management should be employed before, during, and after each General Aviation flight.
  • Safety Risk Management aids such as Flight Risk Assessment Tools specific to General Aviation Operations are available.
