January 18 Day Trip:
Lake Havasu, Arizona (KHII)
KHII Arrival time: 10:45am
RSVP: https://forms.gle/7VeQ3AYAH9iuQwnv7
Greetings everyone! For our first day trip in 2025, we’ll be heading to Lake Havasu. Some of you may recall that our planned trip to KHII during mid-2024 was scrubbed due to weather. January should hopefully offer much better weather and cooler temperatures.
For those of you who haven’t been to Lake Havasu airport, there is a great restaurant on the field. Hanger 24 Craft Brewing sells their own craft beers as well as a great restaurant for lunch and dinner. Hanger 24 opens for lunch at 11:00am so we plan to arrive at KHII at 10:45am and then walk over to the restaurant. It’s particularly important to RSVP if you plan to attend as the restaurant has requested a headcount prior to our arrival.
A unique aspect of Lake Havasu is the London Bridge. In 1968, entrepreneur Robert McCulloch purchased the London Bridge from the City of London. He then had the bridge dismantled, transported from London to Lake Havasu and rebuilt to its original form (taking three years in the process). The bridge is only 7 miles south of the Lake Havasu airport and makes for a great photo opportunity if your passenger has a camera handy.
As always, be sure to thoroughly preflight both yourself and your aircraft. And do a thorough flight planning as would be required for any cross-country flight. KHII can sometimes experience windy conditions (especially in the Spring months, but can happen anytime).
Feel free to contact me with any questions (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) and we'll look forward to seeing you.
Safe flying,
