Greetings everyone! For our second day trip in 2025, we’ll be doing something very different. Last month we headed west to Lake Havasu. This month, we’ll be heading south to Tombstone, AZ. Not many Arizona pilots have visited Tombstone airport, and with good reason. The airport is not close to the town of Tombstone, and the airport previously had no services or ground transportation. However, during 2024, the airport got a new airport manager who committed to making the Tombstone airport a fun destination for GA pilots.
For our fly-out on Saturday, February 22, our host (and airport manager, Roy Jones) will be cooking a home breakfast at the airport for all APA pilots. Some of you may remember Roy as he was previously the airport manager at Benson’s airport where he regularly sponsored fly-in homemade breakfasts for pilots. Roy said breakfast will be FREE (but he will accept donations from pilots). Please be sure to RSVP if you plan to attend so that Roy can buy sufficient supplies. He doesn’t want to run short and leave anyone hungry!
Roy also plans to offer his famous “Can’t Pass Gas Saturday” pricing special for 100LL. He’s always offered very attractively priced 100LL, and on his Can’t Pass Gas days, he commits to being the lowest price of any airport within a 50-mile radius.
ADDED BONUS – Pick up additional AZ Passport airports near Tombstone
While we’re down at Tombstone, there are several other GA airports which are part of APA’s AZ Passport program. Using Tombstone airport as a starting point, you can do a round-robin flight of approximately 84 statute miles and visit four other nearby airports, thus collecting up to FIVE airports (including Tombstone) in a single morning. Several of these airports are in very close proximity to the US/Mexico border so take special caution if you choose to fly to any of these airports.
As always, be sure to thoroughly preflight both yourself and your aircraft, and do a thorough flight plan, as would be required for any cross-country flight.

Safe flying,
