APA Day Trip Coordinator
Marana, AZ (KAVQ)
Something new for 2026 will be the occasional “pop-up” day trip or breakfast flight for our APA members. What’s a pop-up day trip you ask? Well, normally we organize day trips 4-6 weeks in advance and send out invitations 2-3 weeks ahead of the event, but there are also occasions when a short notice works even better, based on weather forecasts and specific destinations.

Our first pop-up breakfast flight to Marana, AZ (KAVQ) occurred on Saturday, Jan 3, and was a big success. Our destination and arrival time were announced with only a 3-day heads-up. Knowing that this was a holiday week, attendance was expected to be modest; however, 20 APA members and guests made the flight to KAVQ, and we had a great time socializing!

Marana Airport has become one of the busiest GA airports in Arizona. Lots of training activity, plus skydiving (both civilian and military). It also has an excellent restaurant which can get quite busy, but luck was on our side, and we were able to find seating for all 20. Just a heads-up for everyone…. the restaurant does NOT take reservations, so plan accordingly!
We plan to do more pop-up fly-outs throughout 2026, so watch for the eBlast announcements and please be sure to RSVP so we know that you’re coming and can save you a seat!

Wishing each of you a prosperous and happy 2026. As always, feel free to contact me with any questions (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) and we'll look forward to seeing you!
Safe flying,
Mike
